Get in the Right Space

Imagine waking up on a Saturday with nowhere you have to be. You slept well, your body feels fine, and technically, you have no reason to complain. But somehow, you feel tired. You pick up your phone, scroll through messages, reply to a few people, check social media and before you know it, a notification pops up.

Someone asks, “Are you okay?”

And for a moment you didn’t know how to answer.

Tired from carrying things you haven’t had the chance to talk about. From always being the one who says, “I’m fine.” To showing up for everyone else while quietly pushing your own feelings to the side. This is where emotional rest comes in. Sometimes, you need a space where you don’t have to have it all together. A space where you can say what you actually feel, have a good cry, talk to someone you trust, or simply sit with yourself without rushing to make everything better.

‎So you put your phone away and decide to spend the afternoon with someone you love. And strangely enough, you feel lighter. Not because they solved anything, but because you didn't have to explain every part of yourself. You could laugh. You could be quiet. You could just exist.

That’s social rest. At times, rest means stepping away from people but it could also mean finding the people you don’t have to recover from. The ones who don’t make you perform, compete or constantly keep up.

By evening, the house is quiet again. There’s nothing left to scroll through, nobody to respond to and no one waiting for an answer. And in that quiet, you finally remember a weight you'd been too busy to notice. So you sit with your Bible, and maybe you don't even have the right words, so you simply stay there for a while. This is what resting in God looks like to me.

Spiritual rest means coming back to God. Not another task to check off, or another thing to get right, but simply coming HOME. Resting in the Truth that I don't have to carry everything myself.

There are parts of us that need more than a bed. Some parts need to be heard, some need company, and honestly, we just need to allow ourselves to be carried by God.
